Unlike many prophecies that mention events briefly, Ezekiel provides two full chapters of detailed description about this invasion. The prophecy describes a massive coalition of nations that will march against Israel in the last days. However, instead of Israel defeating the armies through ordinary warfare, the Bible says God Himself will intervene in a supernatural way.

Because of its extraordinary detail and its apparent connection to modern geopolitical alignments, this prophecy has fascinated students of Bible prophecy for generations.

In Part 1 of this series, we examined the prophecy concerning the War of Elam, recorded in the Book of Jeremiah 49:34–39. That prophecy speaks of a devastating judgment against Elam, a region widely associated with parts of modern Iran.

We saw that the prophecy foretells the breaking of Elam’s military power and the scattering of its people among the nations, followed by a future restoration in the latter days. In this second article, we move to another remarkable prophecy—the destruction of Damascus, recorded in the Book of Isaiah chapter 17.

This prophecy is astonishing for one simple reason: Damascus is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. For thousands of years, armies have conquered it, empires have ruled it, and wars have been fought around it—but the city has never been completely destroyed.

This first article focuses on the War of Elam, a prophecy found in the Book of Jeremiah.

Many Bible scholars believe this prophecy may involve modern Iran, a nation that is currently at the center of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.

Could events unfolding today be preparing the stage for the fulfillment of this ancient prophecy?

To answer that question, we must first examine what the Bible actually says.
